ACSE - The University of Sheffield
The Department of Automatic Control and Systems Engineering (ACSE) at The University of Sheffield is a world-leading centre devoted to Control and Systems Engineering and one of the largest such centre in Europe. The Research Excellence Framework 2014 outcome placed it 3rd overall and 1st in research outputs in the General Engineering sub-unit of assessment.
ACSE’s three research groups focus on the themes of complex systems, autonomous systems and intelligent systems. Its strategy aims to consolidate and enhance its established track record in control, systems engineering and related applications whilst responding to the new multi-disciplinary needs of other areas of study.
The Department recognize Sensing, Complex Systems and Machine Learning as a key research strength and its application to intelligence gathering and security integrates with our broader security and privacy research. They also recognize the need of intelligence at various levels and is focused on the development of approaches offering autonomy for metropolitan cities, and especially for policy and decision makers.
