The city of Santander is the capital of the Cantabria region in the north of Spain and has a population of 172,000 inhabitants.
In recent years, the city of Santander has moved into the vanguard of smart cities, improving public services and developing policies oriented towards its citizens and the stimulation of a new business model of productivity for the city. Among the projects, the SmartSantander project has established a before and after in the way of conceiving and organising innovation in the city. Thus, Santander is well-known as a living lab in which to experiment with new technologies, applications and services. A sustainability model has been developed based on the creation of a City Platform. All the urban services must be integrated into it, as they are tendered with the aim of developing true intelligence in the Smart City. The City Council of Santander has been characterised by its eagerness to provide more efficient city management and closer to the citizen through the use of new technologies. Currently a laboratory to process traffic data and mobility is being implemented in collaboration with the University of Cantabria. From the data collection infrastructure deployed in the city, real-time traffic and mobility information will be received. Also, access to 25 traffic cameras connected to the Santander Traffic Control Centre will be provided. We will also include real-time information from the SAE Urban Transport.
SETA in Santander
SETA will support the following policies:
Management and traffic control;
Optimal management of information for users;
Optimisation and improvement in data collection;
Planning and management of public transport;
Incorporate the measurement of mobility systems quality as another variable to consider.
Santander plan to involved hundreds of citizens and businesses as well to test and use the SETA infrastructure as part of their internal decision process.
